Dr Silvia Hodges Silverstein is the keynote speaker for the Legal Procurement Forum, a series of events in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne in October 2016. It is an honour to have Silvia introducing the topic of legal procurement as she is arguably the world’s leading expert on the topic.
Dr Silvia Hodges Silverstein is a founder and executive director of the Buying Legal Council, the organisation of procurement and operations professionals tasked with sourcing legal services and managing legal services supplier relationships. With a focus on research, advocacy, education and networking, the Buying Legal Council promotes the value of legal procurement and operations keeping members on top of legal market trends and legal procurement and operations best practices.
In addition, Silvia is currently a Lecturer in Law at the prestigious Columbia Law School researching and teaching in the area of law firm management. She is also an Adjunct Professor at Fordham Law School.
Silvia’s work in raising the professional and academic profile of legal procurement has involved research into organisational behaviours, attitudes and industry practice. She co-authored the Harvard Business School case studies “GlaxoSmithKline: Sourcing complex professional services” and “Riverview law: applying business sense to the legal market”.
Silvia is the author of many published articles on law firm management and is is the author/editor of a number of leading books including Legal Procurement Handbook, Buying Legal: Procurement Insights and Practice and Winning Legal Business from Medium-Sized Companies.
In addition to guiding studies on legal purchasing decisions in Europe, Latin America, and the US, Silvia has been working with law firms and legal/legal procurement departments in Europe, the Middle East, and the US.
Silvia received her PHD at Nottingham Law School (UK), hold a master’s degree in business from Universität Bayreuth (Germany) and Warwick Business School (UK) and an undergraduate degree in economics from Universität Bayreuth (Germany).
At Asia-Pacifics first event on the topic of legal procurement, Silvia will be sharing the history of legal procurement, recent trends and legal procurement strategies implemented by Fortune 500 and FTSE 100 companies, many of whom are members of the Buying Legal Council.
